Who is grant Thomson?
Thirty-five-year-old Grant Thomson is the founder and owner of Thomson Hockey. Grant has lots of experience, knowledge, and, most importantly, passion for the game of hockey.
Grant was born in Glasgow, Scotland, and grew up in the small town of East Killbride. He has played hockey for many years, starting at the age of just 7 years old. Grant describes winning the championship with his former club, Hillhead Hockey Club in Glasgow, as the biggest highlight of his playing career. He retired as a player at the age of 25 to focus on his coaching career. Grant then started coaching full-time in 2013 and moved to the Netherlands, where he now lives in Nijmegen. Grant has also found himself enjoying the art of cooking, which he has been practicing for several years, as well as keeping up with Scottish football, where he is a keen supporter of the Glasgow Rangers.
The reasoning for Grant’s choice to become a coach is simply that he feels that he wants to give back to the hockey community that has provided so much support for him. He believes that he can give back the most as a coach. In addition to this, he feels that there is something special about being responsible for someone’s development, and that even just that reason is enough for him to continue chasing his dream and be the best coach he can be.
Grant has a proven track record. One of the achievements that stands out most is the season in which the team he coached, the HC Oirschot Ladies, based in the Netherlands, remained undefeated. Grant is currently the technical manager at HC Weesp and head coach of the Nova Ladies' first team.
Grant created Thomson Hockey so that coaches have a place to call home. He hopes to create a safe space for coaches to come together to learn from and interact with each other. In addition to coaching education, Thomson Hockey promises to have a culture and spirit of togetherness and passion for the game of hockey.
